“Carrickmacross holding with five-bed house sells to local farmer”
A Co Monaghan farm just set a record that’s making jaws drop across the country.
124 acres. Five-bedroomed house. €4.1 million. Yes, you read that right. That works out at €30,000 an acre — and the bidders weren’t just local. Folks came from across the border… and even overseas.
Stephen Barry from Potterton’s described the auction as “electric,” with over 100 people in the room watching every bid rise in leaps of €50,000. Lots were held, then re-offered. Hearts were racing, paddles were waving… and by the end, what could only be called a trophy farm had found its buyer.
It’s the kind of sale that gets you thinking. How far are farm prices going to climb? What does it mean for anyone looking to expand their herd or buy their first place? And maybe most importantly… does anyone really have €30,000 an acre lying around?
We’ve got the full story on how the bidding unfolded, the parcels involved, and just how this historic hammer price came about.
